Endless List of Reasons To Admire Silent Hill:

#3: Protagonists

  • Travis Grady: the Tormented
  • Harry Mason: the Father
  • James Sunderland: the Husband
  • Heather Mason: the Daughter
  • Henry Townsend: the Receiver
  • Alex Shepherd: the Son
  • Murphy Pendleton: the Prisoner

You don’t have to like them all, but they did each deliver a story worth experiencing. And while each fan holds one closer to his/her heart than the others, they’re all perfect in their own right and are worth the mention.

They’re all great characters with the most awesome names

The Screamer may represent:
The alarm sirens at Murphy’s prison, and how they would ring if he tried to escape his cell, and, by extension, police sirens as well.
A murder victim. Her body is covered in decaying flesh, and her screams may reflect the screams that a victim lets out during their struggle.
Murphy’s wife, Carol Pendleton. When idle, the Screamer sometimes holds her arms close, rocking back and forth with head slightly tilted, as if cradling a child. This could represent Murphy’s concern about how Carol dealt with Charlie Pendletons death, and Murphy’s fear of Carol, thinking that she blames and hates him for their son’s death. Thus, he sees the woman he loved, now, as a woman that is twisted, distorted and hostile.
Part of Sanchez’s psyche, a possible rapist or sexual predator due to the way he treats Anne Cunninghamduring the bus transfer representing his possible misdeeds. This seems to be supported by his use of derogatory language towards the Screamer (“Bitch!”). The Screamer is not overtly sexual (she has a very flat chest beneath a heavy coat) and this may demonstrate his own predatory nature of possibly forcing sexuality upon them. Sanchez is shown repeatedly beating her face, which is heavily scarred with slashes, and her skin is stretched very tightly as if she has had plastic surgery; this could suggest that Sanchez has previously beaten his victim(s) so badly that they required facial reconstructive surgery. Her flesh-like coat is torn most around where her breasts would be, possibly hinting at a link to sexual violence and sadism. As Murphy displays no signs of sexual aggression, this further supports that she is Sanchez’ monster

Silent Hill Downpour Easter Eggs.

Downpour contains numerous “Easter eggs” from previous Silent Hill titles.

  • Travis Grady’s truck from the Origins intro appears on Ketchum Street
  • A house on Lanesdale Avenue bears a striking resemblance to Room 302 from Silent Hill 4: The Room(one must use a fire escape ladder to access it).
  • A jukebox at the Devil’s Pitstop diner will play the original Silent Hill theme song when money is deposited into it. DJ Ricks also plays this song when he and Murphy meet.
  • A radio in front of the Interstate Gas Station plays Magdalene on a loop.
  • A painting inside of the Centennial Building depicts the Shepherd House.
  • Another painting inside of the Centennial Building depicts Samael.
  • Seven Trinkets from previous Silent Hill games appear in the Digging Up the Past Sidequest such asHeather’s Radio, Aglaophotis, the Seal of Metatron, and the Laser Pistol to name a few.
  • A boat stationed at the docks near DJ Ricks’s boat is named “Angela’s Fire,” a probable reference toAngela Orosco from Silent Hill 2 who was last seen in a fiery staircase.
